Hildesheim is a large city in Lower Saxony. It was the centre of the duchy of Hildesheim, which was founded in 815 and only lost its sovereignty to Prussia in 1802. The cathedral and the St. Michaelis monastery church are UNSECO World Heritage Sites due to their art treasures and pioneering architecture.
