Steinau an der Straße is a small half-timbered town in Hesse that was located on the Via Regia in the Middle Ages. The Grimm brothers spent their youth here, when their father Philipp Wilhelm Grimm served as the towns clerk. Steinau Castle in the town centre was a former residence of the Counts of Hanau.
