Mellrichstadt is a bavarian town in the Rhön Nature Reserve and lies on the river Streu. It was first mentioned in 822 and was the seat of a royal court. The town‘s medieval fortifications are still worth seeing today. From 1949 to 1990, Mellrich­stadt was located directly at the inner German border.
